The casinos in Spore opened at a time when Sandra Koh started working. She began to frequent the casinos and before long, she was hooked on gambling. Sandra tried many ways to get out of the cycle of debt and addiction but failed. She even tried rehabilitation overseas. Since coming to BGSS in 2014, Sandra has kicked her gambling addiction and now serves as a volunteer helping new female addicts who come to the centre for help.
Christina Lim came to BGSS in 2015, with debts to licensed moneylenders and loan sharks. BGSS negotiated a repayment plan with the moneylenders and successfully walked her out of loan-shark harassment. Christina has since cleared her debts to the moneylenders and is helping ladies in similar distress at BGSS.
Kenny Sin, a 48-year-old man, had been a gambling addict for more than 20 years and bet on horses. He came to Blessed Grace Social Services (BGSS) in 2014. Since then, not only has he quit his gambling habit but also his smoking and drinking habits.
My husband, Patrick had been a compulsive gambling addict for more than 20 years. He brought much heartaches and pain to the family. My children and I had to face constant harassment from loan sharks and moneylenders. Patrick came to seek help from BGSS in 2014 and is now a changed man. Besides quitting his gambling habit, he has also stopped smoking and drinking. My family is whole and happy and we want to thank BGSS.
